Project Introduction

Project positioning

A thousand-year-old capital embarks on a new journey along the Silk Road.

TuobaCity, commanding a position within the ancient city walls of Datong, Shanxi Province, China, at Qingyuan Gate, is a comprehensive cultural tourism complex that immerses visitors in a holistic experience. Rooted in the Xianbei culture of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it profoundly integrates history, competitive sports, and commerce. The project aims to establish a new cultural landmark where past and present converge, creating a vibrant new realm for consumption. It aspires to become an international benchmark for innovative cultural tourism integration, responding to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Cultural foundations

The project is rooted in the profound historical soil of Datong, the ancient capital of the Northern Wei dynasty spanning millennia. Drawing inspiration from the Xianbei Tuoba culture as its soul and employing the official language of the Northern Wei (Datong dialect) as its unique medium, it focuses on the transmission of civilization and aesthetic expression. Through innovative recreations of Northern Wei art, attire, calligraphy and ornamentation, we are dedicated to safeguarding the diverse and integrated cultural roots of Chinese civilization, reviving the splendid splendour of the ‘Marvelous Realm of Pingcheng’.

Outdoor "Tuoba City International Bazaar"

Taking the cultural integration and trade exchanges of the Northern Wei period as its historical backdrop, it features 52 permanent national cultural and tourism commodity pavilions and 36 temporary shops, reviving the prosperity of the “Datong International Bazaar of a united world, a Millennium of Flourishing Exchange” from 1,600 years ago. Foreign cultural and commodity institutions operating in China are welcomed to establish a presence through a free-construction model, with foreign merchants maintaining independent operation. In the spirit of cultural integration, it establishes the Tuoba Customs Stage, where performances by different ethnic groups take turns, showcasing global cultural charms. Through cultural and tourism innovation, it stages performances of "Opening the City at Dawn, Lighting Lanterns at Dusk, and Closing with Prayers of Blessing," open to tourists free of charge throughout the day.

  • Scale: Covering an area of 5,000 square metres, it features 52 permanent national cultural and tourism product pavilions alongside 36 temporary retail outlets.
  • Experience: Relive the bustling splendour of the ‘Great Unity Marketplace’ from 1,600 years ago. We invite merchants worldwide to set up shop free of charge, operating independently to jointly forge a culturally diverse international trade platform.
  • Features: Four dedicated performance stages showcase the distinctive culture of the Tuoba dynasty, presenting daily themed ceremonies including the ‘Dawn Gate Opening’, ‘Lantern Lighting at Dusk’, and ‘Market Closing Blessings’. These stages remain open to visitors free of charge throughout the day, creating an atmosphere of profound ritual and immersive experience.

Highlights of TuobaCity Project

  • Technology-empowered, immersive across all domains

Deeply integrating full-scenario NPC real-world interaction, multi-dimensional spatial light and shadow artistry with immersive performances, it constructs a cross-temporal cultural fusion space. Through the ‘technology + cultural tourism + night-time experiences’ model, it revitalizes the regional night-time economy.

  • Win-win cooperation, low-cost entry

    • Outdoor retail units: Zero-rent model featuring themed venues where merchants bring their own merchandise to sell, with revenue sharing ensuring mutual benefit.
    • Indoor dining: Basic fit-out and kitchen layout provided, with merchants responsible for soft furnishings and equipment. Regular settlements via a unified payment platform significantly lower the entry barrier for partners.
  • Enjoy round-the-clock access, shared by both hosts and guests.

Indoor attractions transcend time and weather constraints, while outdoor districts remain freely accessible throughout the day. Catering to the diverse needs of both local residents and visitors, this cross-disciplinary hub fosters a symbiotic coexistence of history and modernity, where cultural tourism and commerce mutually enrich one another.

We cordially invite you to collaborate with us.

We extend a warm invitation to global merchants specializing in the sale of cultural and tourism products from various nations, the establishment of ethnic-themed dining establishments, and the promotion of world cultural diversity to join us at Tuoba City. Together, we shall establish a new benchmark for Silk Road cultural tourism and seize the fresh opportunities presented by Datong's cultural and tourism sector.
